UPSA Indecent Dressing: Management Reviewing Dress Code Enforcement Protocols

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), says it is reviewing the Dress Code enforcement protocols which have attracted wide public backlash and condemnation.
The review, it said, would reflect the university’s core values of integrity, respect, and service.
“As part of this, additional training will be provided to the Dress Code Compliance Team to reinforce appropriate conduct while performing their duties,” it said in a statement.
Meanwhile, it defended its dress code policy, saying, it instils in students the corporate culture and values expected in professional environments, adding that it “is not arbitrary or subjective”.
“Every student signs up for the dress code policy. Generations of UPSA alumni, many of whom now hold influential positions in various sectors of the country, attest to the lasting benefits of this professional culture in shaping their careers.
“While UPSA remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold the dress code, the university assures all stakeholders that enforcement of the same will always be carried out with respect and civility, taking cognizance of due process.”
It further affirmed its commitment to providing a safe, respectful, and professional learning environment for all students and staff.
The University came into the spotlight at the beginning of July after undertaking a clampdown on indecent dressing on campus. A task force to enforce the decision prevented students in slippers and indecently dressed from entering lecture halls.
