UAE’s EDGE Group Revives Talks with Ghana Defence Ministry on Defence Hub

The United Arab Emirates-based EDGE Group has resumed discussions with Ghana’s Ministry of Defence on a proposal to establish a Defence Hub for the Ghana Armed Forces through the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC).
The initiative is aimed at supporting Ghana’s defence industrialisation agenda and strengthening indigenous defence production capabilities.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Acting Judge Advocate General of the Ministry, Brigadier General Benjamin Amoah-Boakye, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting industrialisation within the Ghana Armed Forces.
He said strategic partnerships with reputable international defence firms such as EDGE Group would contribute significantly to the development of indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities, enhance self-reliance, and support national development objectives.
“Government is committed to reducing reliance on imports by building capacity locally. Partnerships like this are critical to achieving that vision for the Ghana Armed Forces,” Brig. Gen. Amoah-Boakye stated.
The Director of Business Development International at EDGE Group, Mr Tony Chegwidden, highlighted the company’s range of products and services.
He stressed the need to understand the local market in order to deliver tailored solutions that meet the operational needs of the Ghana Armed Forces.
EDGE Group is one of the world’s leading advanced technology and defence groups, with interests in air, land, sea, cyber and electronic warfare systems.
The proposal was initially presented in May 2025 during the tenure of the late Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah.
However, discussions were put on hold following his demise.
