U/ER: 80 Arrested in Anti-Crime Crackdown

Eighty suspects have been arrested following a 10-day intelligence-led swoop by the Upper East Regional Police Command and the Inspector General of Police’s Special Operations Team targeting narcotics peddling and related criminal activities across four districts.
The operation ran from May 25 to June 3, 2026, and covered Bolgatanga, Tongo, Bongo and the Nabdam District.
At Zuarungu, police arrested 12 suspects, including eight males and four females. The female suspects comprised three Nigerians and one Ghanaian.
In Bongo, 34 suspects were picked up, made up of 32 males and two females. A subsequent phase of the operation in Perlungu, Kongo and Nangodi in the Nabdam District led to the arrest of 14 suspects, 12 males and two females.
Another 20 suspects were arrested in Bolgatanga.
Preliminary investigations indicate that those arrested were involved in narcotic peddling and consumption as well as other criminal-related activities.

The team retrieved various exhibits during the operation.
In Tongo, police recovered a motorcycle, assorted foreign cigarettes, male condoms and quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Items retrieved in Bongo included three rounds of 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition and two motorbikes.
In Nabdam, officers seized parcels and sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, assorted drinks suspected to contain narcotic content, one unregistered motorbike, assorted foreign cigarettes and pieces of a casino jackpot machine.
Suspects arrested in Bolgatanga were found in possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, assorted cigarettes, a black Yamaha Sirius motorbike with registration number M-19-UE 2688, a black Luojia motorbike with registration number M-13-UE 7181, an unregistered Haojue motorbike and a casino jackpot machine.
All 80 suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law, the Ghana Police Service said.
