Constitution Review: Nananom Must Fight For Stripped Entitlements- Otumfuo

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has challenged traditional authorities to fight for entitlements the current constitution has stripped from them.

According to Otumfuo, the ongoing consultation by the Constitution Review Committee presents a perfect opportunity to advocate for what rightly belongs to them.

At a meeting with the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs on July 17, 2025, Otumfuo remarked that one of them is the ownership of minerals.

“Nananom must realize that we sat aloof for our bonafide properties to be taken away through the constitution. The law stripped us when it said land belongs to us but the minerals are for the President and yet we signed for it to become law and now we are trapped.”

The King added that Nananom must outline their concerns regarding the law in its current form.

“We need to engage the Constitution Review Committee…That is the bigger fish. There are a lot of concerns about the Constitution and we have to take a relook at them. All our problems with the constitution will have to be addressed through this.”
