Bagbin to Fish Out MP Behind ‘Daughter of Murderer’ Comment

The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has initiated processes to fish out the lawmaker who described Zenator Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey as a “daughter of a murderer”.
According to the Speaker, an investigation is already underway.
The culprit, he indicated will be liable to suspension or expulsion as he urged him to own up.
The person, if found “guilty of defamation… will be liable to be reprimanded or suspended for a period not exceeding 9 months or expelled from Parliament altogether”.
“I advise the member responsible to within the week show honesty and plead than wait for the outcome of investigations,” he is quoted as saying while receiving a petition in Parliament from the Volta Diaspora Caucus on March 4, 2025.
Comment
During a Parliamentary debate on February 5, 2025, over the observation of a proper 60th anniversary celebration of the death of politician Joseph Boakye Danquah, Zenator who is the first daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings rose to talk; however, she was denied due to the chaos the discussion was creating.
The Presiding Speaker, Andrew Asiamah, revoked the opportunity for members to contribute, restricting it to only the leaders.
Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin was therefore given the floor during which a voice shouted at Zenator, “Daughter of murderer, sit down.”
In reaction to the Minority Leader’s stern look at the commentator who was not captured on camera, he retorted, “But there is evidence her father murdered people.”
Accusation
The statement was attributed to former Lands Minister, Samuel Jinapor; however, he denied it, affirming his belief in decent debates and intellectual devoid of “insults and character assassination”.
