Takoradi Power Plant to Add 900MW to Ghana’s National Grid When Completed in 2027 – Jinapor

The 900MW Combined Cycle Power Plant under construction in Takoradi will add 900MW of generation capacity to Ghana’s national grid when completed in 2027, Energy Minister John Jinapor has said.

Mr Jinapor disclosed this after productive engagement with the AKSA Energy team and energy sector stakeholders on the project’s progress.

While the plant is currently scheduled for completion in December 2027, the Minister has directed AKSA to accelerate implementation and deliver it by September 2027.

“I directed the AKSA team to accelerate implementation efforts and work towards completing the project by September 2027,” Jinapor stated in a Facebook post following the meeting.

He described the investment as strategic for Ghana’s power sector, noting that the additional capacity will play a significant role in strengthening energy security, supporting industrialisation, and meeting the country’s growing electricity demand.

The Minister said he expects to see steady progress on the project and its successful delivery, which he called important for stabilising the national grid and powering industrial growth in the Western Region and beyond.
