Otumfuo@25: KMA Gears Up
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) says it is fully prepared to contribute its quota for the various events slated in the celebration of the 25th enstoolment anniversary of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Beginning with the kingdom-wide clean-up exercise which will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2024, the Assembly will amass the needed support and involvement of the public.
Already, the KMA has released instructions for buildings along ceremonial roads to be repainted as well as the closure of shops for the clean-up exercise. It is also putting in place mechanisms to evacuate hawkers and beggars along ceremonial streets in the city of Kumasi.
“We are well prepared,” the Chief Executive of the Assembly, Hon Samuel Pyne told Opemsuo Radio’s Kwame Awuah Nimfour during an exclusive interview.
“Traders and beggars who linger on ceremonial streets will also be removed. Buildings along ceremonial streets are also to be painted. Per our by-laws, one can be penalised for not going by this order.”
On the clean-up exercise, he encouraged residents of Kumasi to get involved and clean their immediate surroundings while traders and volunteers stomp various markets.
“We have all come together to do this so I will plead with the residents of Kumasi and the whole of Asanteman to join the exercise and clean up their surroundings. We have spoken to Assembly Members and the Assembly has also mobilised trading unions to go out into the various business districts to clean up
“It will start at 6am and end at noon. No shop is expected to operate. This is an obligation for all of us. Cars will also be prohibited from the Central Business District as the exercise carries on. Everyone must get involved.”
The clean-up exercise is the first of a series of events outlined as part of programmes to mark the 25th Anniversary of the King.
