GRIDCo, ECG Announce Planned Power Outages In Parts Of Kumasi From October 30

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced planned power interruptions in some communities in Kumasi from Friday, October 30, to facilitate work on the Anwomaso-Ahodwo transmission line upgrade project.
The planned outages, which will run until Sunday, November 29, excluding weekends, are expected to affect communities along the transmission line route between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on days when work reaches their respective sections.
In a joint statement, the two electricity companies say the project has reached 70 per cent completion and is expected to be completed by the end of November 2026.
They explain that the ongoing work involves stringing transmission conductors on towers, an activity that requires temporary interruptions in electricity supply to protect engineers, other workers and members of the public.
“This activity requires planned interruptions in electricity supply to some communities along the line route to protect the lives of engineers, other personnel working on the project and members of the public,” the statement said.
The companies indicate that the ECG will publish a detailed schedule showing the affected communities and their respective outage dates to help consumers prepare for the interruptions.
They acknowledge that the outages will inconvenience households and businesses but appeal to affected residents to cooperate with the project team.
“GRIDCo and ECG recognise the inconvenience that these planned interruptions will cause households, businesses, and other electricity consumers. We appeal to the public, particularly affected communities, for your patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout this period,” the statement added..
The companies say the upgrade is an important investment in strengthening the transmission network and improving the reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region.
They also apologise for the inconvenience and assure the public of their commitment to completing the project safely and within the scheduled period.
