Ghana Signs Deal With Russia To Create Jobs For Youth

Ghana has reached an agreement with Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan to facilitate employment opportunities for Ghanaian citizens through the Alabuga Start programme.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment and the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, seeks to strengthen cooperation in the recruitment of Ghanaian workers.

Officials present at the signing included E.R. Safiullin, Acting Director of Alabuga; Senator Muhametshin; Gatin, an adviser to the Rais of Tatarstan; and Ahmetshin, Tatarstan’s Permanent Representative to Moscow.

Speaking after the ceremony in Russia, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, said the arrangement would give young Ghanaians access to employment opportunities with competitive salaries, accommodation and residence permits.

He assured prospective recruits that the government would work to protect their interests and ensure they received appropriate jobs and favourable conditions of service.

“We’re going to make sure that they get the right jobs to do, they are protected, they are being given the right conditions of service,” he said.

Mr Agyekum explained that the agreement also provides room for cooperation beyond employment, with both sides exploring opportunities in business, academic research, cultural activities and religious exchanges.

He said Ghanaian businesses would be encouraged to participate in upcoming business forums, while universities and other academic institutions would be supported to work together on research projects.

The Minister said the partnership was part of the government’s efforts to strengthen international relations and establish collaborations that could create more employment opportunities for young people in Ghana.
