Ken Agyapong’s Camp Wants Abronye, Wontumi Sanctioned

Pressure is mounting for the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sanction Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Wontumi, and the Bono Regional Chairman, Mr Kwame Baffoe Abronye, following their “unfounded” claims.
The camp of flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, believes the distancing posture of the party is insufficient as their actions breach the tenets of the constitution.
“The party distancing itself alone is not enough. They should be seen publicly to have condemned those reckless, unfortunate statements that were made by these two individuals.”
In an interview, the spokesperson of the camp, Kwasi Kwarteng, acknowledged that such a statement had the propensity to weaken the party and dent its image.
He therefore wants a disciplinary process instituted, and the proper sanctions or punishment proffered for all found culpable.
“They should summon them to face disciplinary action. It is a clear act of violation of the party’s constitution and misconduct. It is our view that distancing alone does not cure the mischief…We’re saying that until the party takes decisive action, that action is going to weaken the party and dent the image of the party out there,” he told CNR.
According to him, any right-thinking member of the party and Ghanaian will find these comments unfortunate, as it is divisive and designed to break the party.
“It was unfortunate for those comments to have been made. It’s in clear violation of the party’s constitution. It undermines the credible electoral process we’re all taking as a party. It abhors principles of unity. It’s so bad, it’s so condemnable; they were reckless.”
Wontumi is reported to have claimed that the decision to hold the presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was designed to favour a particular aspirant, while Abronye, for his part, claimed that he compiles the Bono Regional album and would prevent certain individuals from voting.
