GHS Encourages Prompt Reporting Of Mpox Symptoms After 18 New Recorded Cases

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has urged the public to promptly report any suspected symptom of Mpox for early testing and medication.
It comes after the country recorded 21 new cases, bringing the total confirmed cases to 218.
This was confirmed in an update on July 18.
In response to rise in cases, the respective Regional Health Directorates have promptly activated public health measures, including contact tracing, to prevent further spread of the virus.
“We take this opportunity to remind the public that Mpox is a viral disease transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated materials.”
Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
“The Government of Ghana remains committed to safeguarding public health. Drawing on our experience in managing similar outbreaks, we will continue to implement appropriate measures to protect the health and well-being of all residents.”
The public has since been strongly advised to
-Practice regular hand hygiene,
-Avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms such as rashes,
-Report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility immediately.
-Wash hands regularly with soap and water.
