NPA Reinforces Operational Standards after June 3 Disaster

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) says operational standards across petroleum Service centres have been strengthened to forestall a recurrence of the June 3 disaster ten years ago.
Commemorating the tragic incident on Tuesday, the Authority said the memory is still “fresh on our minds.”
It reaffirmed its commitment to its responsibility to ensure safe regulatory compliance and practices to prevent fuel-related accidents.
As part of this, it said collaboration with other regulatory agencies had been reinforced regarding the siting of filling stations across the country.
“The Authority has also improved the safety operational standards of Petroleum Service Providers. The Authority has intensified public education for consumers on safety at filling stations nationwide.”
Meanwhile, it cautioned residents residing around drainages and waterways surrounding Petroleum Service Stations to take safety precautions.
