NPP Distances Itself From Abronye, Wontumi Rants

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from recent rants by two regional chairmen of the party.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Wontumi, is reported to have claimed that the decision to hold the presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was designed to favour a particular aspirant, while the Bono Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwame Baffoe Abronye for his part claimed that he compiles the Bono Regional album and would prevent certain individuals from voting.
Reacting to the separate statements, the opposition party said its claims do not represent the ideals and practices of the party.
It emphasised that no individual, irrespective of rank or position, has a monopoly or unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the compilation of the polling station album strictly adheres to established compliance procedures,” it said, adding that the National Secretariat will, at the appropriate time, issue clear and transparent guidelines, protocols, and procedures designed to safeguard integrity, credibility, and fairness at every stage of the process.
It therefore urged polling station executives across the country to disregard the pronouncements and treat them with the utmost contempt they deserve.
With regards to the statement of Wontumi, the party stated that the assertion was unfounded.
“The National Council exhaustively deliberated and took the decision in the Party’s supreme and strategic interest. Given the calibre of the members of the National Council, no individual can manipulate or influence a decision in his or her favour.”
It added that the decision is intended solely to provide the Party with sufficient time and strategic advantage to reorganise, reposition, and recapture power in 2028.
It affirmed, “The Party remains resolutely committed to upholding transparency, fairness, and internal democracy in all its processes. Leadership will continue to ensure that every stage of our electoral activities reflects the highest standards of integrity and credibility.”
