Stay Vigilant and Proactive Amid Crime Evolution – Otumfuo to Black Maria Team
The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)’s Special Operations Team, Black Maria, to remain vigilant and sustain the momentum in their clampdown on illicit drug peddling and violent crime.
During a visit to the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo acknowledged the growing sophistication of criminal activities and cautioned that the threat continues to evolve.
The Asantehene urged the team to remain proactive, adapt quickly, and stay a step ahead of criminal elements to ensure that communities continue to feel safe and protected.
“While you are breaking up hideouts today, others are plotting to set up more. Be vigilant, maintain the momentum, and together we can reduce violence and crime,” he said.
His Majesty commended the team for the work done so far, noting the sacrifices, commitment, and professionalism they have demonstrated.
“I’ve received updates on your operations, the locations you’ve tackled, and the fact that over 100 people have been arrested. I appreciate your efforts. This is for Ghana,” he stated.
His Majesty further encouraged them to sustain their commitment, dedication, and passion.
“Your work calls for commitment, dedication, and real passion. You were chosen for this task because you are trusted. I encourage you to stand together and get to work,” he added.
The engagement follows the introduction of the Black Maria team to the Asantehene on July 22, 2026, by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei-Akoto.
DCOP Osei-Akoto introduced Superintendent Augustine Dawson Amoah, ASP Frank Acquah, and ASP Emmanuel Abankwa as leaders of the special team and briefed Otumfuo on some of their exploits within the region.
“These are the men helping us with the work here… They have been diligent in their duties, restoring order in the region,” he reported.
