Speaker Bagbin Urges MPs To Lead National Cleaning Days In Flood-Affected Areas

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has called on Members of Parliament to take an active role in the National General Cleaning Days scheduled for July 10 and 11, 2026, in flood-affected regions.
Delivering a statement on the floor of the House, the Speaker said Parliament fully supports the initiative announced by President John Dramani Mahama following the recent floods.
He urged MPs to lead clean-up efforts in their constituencies and to mobilise local authorities, community groups and residents to participate in the exercise.
The Speaker also disclosed that Parliament’s leadership would consider arrangements to allow MPs from the affected regions to return home and lead the exercise.
He stressed that Parliament remains committed to supporting measures that promote environmental sanitation, protect lives and strengthen the country’s resilience against future disasters.
The two-day National General Cleaning Days are part of the government’s response to mitigate the impact of the recent floods and to improve sanitation in communities hit hardest by the disaster.
