Ghana, EU Reaffirm Commitment To Strengthen Security Cooperation

Ghana and the European Union have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening security cooperation following a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Defence.

EU Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rune Skinnebech, together with Head of Division for the European Peace Facility, Dorota Dlouchy Suliga, and Policy Officer Maria Castaldi, met with Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, to discuss enhanced collaboration in addressing emerging security challenges.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the evolving security threats facing Ghana and outlined government efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly the Ghana Navy.

He said this includes the deployment of operational platforms to protect critical national infrastructure and strategic assets.

He also expressed appreciation for the EU’s continued partnership and support to Ghana’s defence sector.

Speaking on behalf of the European Union, Ms Suliga reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to working with Ghana as an equal partner to address shared security concerns.

She announced that the EU has plans to provide funding under the European Peace Facility to support the strengthening of Ghana’s defence capabilities in the coming year.

The funding, she said, reinforces the shared commitment to peace, stability, and regional security.

Both sides agreed to sustain dialogue and cooperation to ensure that Ghana remains resilient in the face of current and future security threats.
