Settling In UK Is a Privilege Not a Right; Prime Minister to Migrants

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Keir Starmer, says becoming a British citizen is not a right for immigrants.
According to him, the status must be earned.
“Settlement in the UK is a privilege that is earned, not a right,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
It comes after he announced sweeping reforms for migration, aimed at reducing resettlement to the European country.
As part of the reforms immigrants will have to wait up to 10 years before they can apply to become British citizens, up from the five-year requirements.
That notwithstanding, people who contribute significantly to society, such as doctors, nurses and engineers, could be fast-tracked through the process.
Additionally, a higher level of English language skills will be required for all immigrants, and graduates will be allowed to remain in the UK for 18 months after their degrees end, down from two years.
In a later post, Keir reiterated his commitment to cutting net immigration, which many have failed to do.
“I know you’re angry about immigration. I get it. Mark my words: I will take back control of our borders.”
He intends to do this by “cutting migration, ending the use of asylum hotels, and ramping up our efforts to stop small boat crossings”.
“We will smash the people smuggling gangs at source.”
