Pharmacy Council Shuts Life Dream Pharmacy Following Death Of 5-Year Old
The Pharmacy Council in the Ashanti Region has closed down a pharmacy following the death of a five-year-old child in Kenyasi-Adwumam in the Kwabre East Municipality.
According to the information gathered, Life Dream Pharmacy gave improper treatment to the child when he reported to his parent the complaint of a dog bite.
Sources say the staff on duty went ahead to administer the ATS Tetanus vaccine, Efpac suspension, Amoxiclav suspension and Vitamin C syrup as a treatment for the rabid dog bite.
The attendant then informed the parents that the child should be taken home.
Giving more details, the Regional Manager of the Pharmacy Council, Benjamin Kwarteng Frempong said the parents were also told not to seek further treatment from any health facility.
“A child who has been bitten by a dog was rushed to Life Dream Pharmacy in Kenyasi. The attendant administered an ATS injection, gave out pain relievers, an immune booster and anti-biotics and told them to go and administer the medication as prescribed and that once they go by what has been prescribed there is no need to seek further medical intervention.
“So the parents adhered to what was told them but unfortunately just after one month and three days after the incident, the child passed on.”
He said when the attention of the Council was drawn to the development, a team was dispatched to the facility.
Upon an inspection, it was revealed that Life Dream Pharmacy was not meeting the laid down standards and regulations set by the Council, hence the decision to shut it down.
“So when we received the letter on July 5, 2023, we decided to visit the premises and when we got to the premises we realised that things were not up to standard.
“After using our monitoring tools and checklists, because the facility did not conform to standards and the laid down practice regulations, we had to close it down.”
Benjamin Kwarteng Frempong further indicated that the issue has been reported to the head office so a disciplinary committee will be instituted to investigate the matter.
“Further action” will be communicated, he assured.
