Pelosi’s Flight Lands In Taiwan—As 600,000 Follow Along Online

More than 600,000 people watched online as a U.S. Air Force plane carrying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed at the Songshan Airport in Taiwan’s capital of Taipei on Tuesday night, in a visit that comes despite China’s warnings of serious repercussions.

After leaving Kuala Lumpur earlier on Tuesday afternoon, a U.S. Air Force Boeing C-40 aircraft flew across South East Asia—avoiding the South China Sea, according to the tracking service FlightRadar24.

The flight initially did not display a destination on FlightRadar24’s tracker but was eventually updated to display Songshan Airport in Taipei.

The flight path of the aircraft whose call sign appears as SPAR19 garnered a lot of attention online with more than 620,000 people following it live on FlightRadar’s website at one point.

The high interest in the tracker forced FlightRadar24 to set up an online “waiting room” for new users trying to access the tracking info as the site says it is facing “usual volumes” of traffic
