Parliament’s Security Committee Engages Dallaire Institute on Child Protection in Armed Conflict

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Security and Intelligence has held an engagement session with representatives of the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security to deliberate on measures for protecting children in armed conflict.
The meeting focused on the implementation of the Vancouver Principles, prevention of violent extremism, building community resilience, and protecting children from recruitment and use in armed violence.
Members also examined the concept of moral injury among military personnel, the function of early warning systems, the role of youth engagement, and how child protection principles can be integrated into Ghana’s national security framework.
The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security is a Canadian organisation that works internationally to prevent the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict.
Officials of the Institute joined Members of the Committee on Security and Intelligence for the session.
The engagement gave Committee Members the opportunity to seek clarification on the Institute’s work, assess Ghana’s preparedness in responding to emerging security threats, and consider possible policy and legislative measures to strengthen preventive security systems.
Parliament said discussions are expected to inform future steps aimed at enhancing Ghana’s child protection architecture within its security sector.
