OFFICIAL: Carlos Queiroz Appointed New Head Coach of Black Stars

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially appointed experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz replaces Otto Addo, who was dismissed following Ghana’s disappointing friendly results against Austria and Germany during the March international window.
The decision was made by the GFA Executive Council after wide consultations with key stakeholders. The veteran tactician has been entrusted with the crucial task of leading the four-time African champions at the global showpiece.
The 73-year-old brings a vast wealth of international experience to the job. He has previously managed top clubs such as Real Madrid and served as assistant coach at Manchester United. On the national team stage, he has coached Portugal, Iran, South Africa, Egypt, Oman, Japan and Qatar.
The experienced gaffer is well known for his strong World Cup pedigree. He guided South Africa to the 2002 tournament, took Portugal to the round of 16 in 2010, and led Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions of the FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese gaffer is expected to assume duties immediately and begin preparations with the Black Stars as they aim for a strong performance at the 2026 World Cup.
The tournament will be hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States, starting on June 11, 2026.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England and Croatia in the remaining group matches.
