FC Groningen Vs Ajax Postponed Due To Fans Intrusions

A game between Ajax and FC Groningen was called off on Sunday following interruptions by fans at Euroborg stadium using smoke bombs.

Some fans at the stadium began to throw smoke bombs on the pitch 5 minutes into the game necessitating a break. After the break when players went back to the pitch, the incident happened again forcing authorities to postpone it.

Narrating the incident in a press statement, Ajax said, “FC Groningen – Ajax had yet to reach the six minute mark when smokebombs were already thrown from the stands. The players went inside for fifteen minutes after that first incident.

“Right after the duel was resumed, it happened another time. Referee Manschot decided to suspend the rest of the match.”

Pictures from the incident showed smoke smouldering on the grass with the players looking stranded.

It appears fans of relegated FC Groningen are unhappy with their Management.

The match will be played on Tuesday at 15:00 GMT, however, without fans at the stadium.

“The remaining time of the match between FC Groningen and Ajax will be played without supporters, on Tuesday, May 16th. The match will start at 15:00,” Ayax said in the statement.
