The Member of Parliament for Sunyani West Constituency, Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah, says she will collaborate with the Bono Regional Police to arrest and prosecute all individuals involved in the death of a Kotoko fan during a football match in her constituency on Sunday.

The football game between Asante Kotoko and the Nsoatreman FC witnessed a series of violence which also led to injuries and destruction to some equipment.

In a statement, the lawmaker commiserated with the bereaved family and club and condemned the violence.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire football community. As the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, I strongly condemn the violence that led to this unfortunate incident.”

She reckons that football is a sport that unites, emphasizing that it was unacceptable that the game ended tragically.

She therefore pledged, “I will work closely with the Bono Regional Minister and security forces to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Hon Yeboah Amankwah further urged the Ghana Football Association to take immediate action to review and strengthen security protocols at all match venues to prevent such incidents from recurrence.

“Let us come together to promote peace, safety, and sportsmanship in our beloved sport,” she added.

Ardent Asante Kotoko fan, Frimpong Yaw Francis, popularly known as Nana Pooley, was stabbed to death following the 1-0 defeat to Nsoatreman FC.

This followed a melee that marred the game at Nana Koramansah Park at Nsoatre in the Bono Region on February 2, 2025.

He died at a hospital while receiving treatment, Kotoko confirmed in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Porcupines alongside four players have been charged for failing to control players and anti-footballing activities respectively during the game.

Kotoko have since suspended all footballing activities until further notice.
