Two Suspects Shot Dead as Police Foil Robbery Attempt in Accra

The police shot dead two robbery suspects in the quest to foil a robbery incident in Accra.

According to a police statement, five armed men were lodging at a hotel in Labadi and planning to rob a foreign national at Cantonments on July 15, 2025.

Their attempt was foiled during an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters.

“While en route to their target location in a Toyota Yaris vehicle, the suspects, detecting police surveillance, opened fire on the police team, shooting one of our officers in the process.”

“The officers returned fire, injuring two of the suspects who were later pronounced dead at the Police Hospital,” the police said, adding that the remaining three managed to flee.

One police officer sustained gunshot wounds in his legs and underarm, according to the police.

He has since been admitted to a hospital and is receiving medical attention where he is responding to treatment.

Two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, live cartridges, three mobile phones, talismans, and other items were retrieved from the scene.

A manhunt is underway to arrest the remaining three suspects currently on the run.
