Nigerians Apprehended For Targeted Vehicle Break-ins in Kumasi

Police have arrested four Nigerians and a Ghanaian suspected to be responsible for the recent vehicle break-ins and theft in the Kumasi metropolis.

According to the police, the modus operandi of the criminal syndicate was to trail unsuspecting victims who withdrew money from financial institutions and then steal large sums of money from their vehicles while parked.

“The syndicate, often using Toyota Highlander vehicles with fake registration plates, identified and followed targets before striking,” it said in a statement.

The syndicate was dismantled through coordinated intelligence and surveillance by the Police Intelligence Directorate and the intelligence video surveillance (IVS) system as two vehicles used in the crimes were traced.

Three of the suspects identified as Russell Ekenze, Francis Friday, and Linus Agwazie were arrested on June 19, 2025 while tools used in the thefts were retrieved from their vehicles.

“The suspects confessed to multiple incidents and named other accomplices, including Cosmas Maduabuchukwu, who remains at large.”

The police further revealed that two women, Gifty Ozurumbam and Gladys Ibrahim, were also arrested for obstructing investigations.

“In total, five suspects are in custody and being arraigned before court. The syndicate is largely composed of Nigerian nationals,
with one Ghanaian suspected.”

It stated that further investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.
