Judge Harassment: Implicated Officers Weren’t Detained- CID

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has denied reports that it detained police officers over allegations of harassing a Circuit Court Judge in connection with a traffic offence.
The Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Department, Joseph Benefo Darkwah, in a statement said the claims are baseless.
“We wish to categorically state that the claim is not just false, but it is baseless and without merit.”
Petition
The communique dated April 23 said the CID received a petition from the judge in question on April 7, 2025, alleging four officers of the Adenta Divisional Police Command, led by Inspector Godwin Dey, had harassed her, assaulted her court clerk and wrongfully towed her vehicle from the frontage of the Adenta Court Complex to the Adenta Police Station.
This, she pointed out, happened on December 13, 2024, but had been swept under the carpet by the Adenta Divisional Command after filing a formal complaint.
Invitation
Acting on the petition, it said the CID commenced an investigation into the complaint and invited Inspector Francis Adjei, No. 53349, G/Sgt. Dasebre Oti Boateng, No. 53852 and G/Cpl Jonah Ajubulisa to the CID headquarters for a fair hearing.
It noted, “They left the CID Headquarters immediately after their statements were taken. At no point were the officers detained as has been falsely reported.”
Probe
It assured that the investigation into the case is ongoing in line with the laid down procedures.
“We would like to assure the general public that, whereas the Police Administration will stand by its officers who follow the rules in the discharge of their lawful duties, any reported incidents of misconduct by officers towards members of the public will be promptly investigated and the necessary actions taken.”
