Minority Raises Red flag Over Politicisation In The Security Services

The Minority Caucus on defence and Interior Select Committee led by Hon James Agalga, Member of Parliament for Bulsa North has raised a red flag on how the government has politicised the security services specifically on recruitment.

According to the minority, the politicisation of the security agencies manifests by the mode of recruitment of personnel into the various services most often, unqualified personnel who are politically connected to the NPP administration are the ones who are been recruited into the security services. “And also, meritocracy is no longer applied to determine who qualifies to be recruited into the security services under President Akufo-Addo’s government, the grand scheme is to create security apparatus loyal to the state but to NPP government”.

He also raised concerns about promotion in the security sector which was done by merit and performance is also now heavily politicised under this current govt.

Responding to the press conference, the Minister for Defence Hon. Dominic Nitiwul dismissed the minority claim of recruiting NPP loyalists into the security services.

The minister said recruitment into the Ghana armed forces have remained at the highest level and nobody can get into the armed forces without having all the necessary requirement, he mentions six (6) stages one have to go through before one can be recruited and none of these can be compromised.

At the same news conference, the interior minister, Hon. Ambrose Derry, also rejected claims that NPP supporters were being recruited into the Ghana police force, claiming that applications had already been submitted and that the minority was aware of the degree of transparency.

The interior minister implores the populace to reject the Minority’s baseless accusation that applicants for police positions are chosen based on their party affiliation, and anyone with supporting documentation is urged to present it.
