Manso Nkwanta Voted for NPP, but No Development – MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for  Manso Nkwanta Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. George Obeng Takyi, has expressed disappointment that despite consistently voting for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), his constituency has not witnessed any significant improvement or development.

“There has been no action taken to address the deplorable state of our roads. Our feeder roads lack proper surfacing and need reshaping. The roads are also poorly defined, with nearby roads often mistaken for Manso Nkwanta road. I have even submitted a proposal to the government regarding this issue,” he stated in an interview on Nkwantannanso on July 12.

However, Mr Takyi acknowledged that the lack of development is a widespread problem due to insufficient government funding.

“The construction of roads in other parts of the country, may not necessarily be a result of government funding. It may be a foreign loan. The Minister in Parliament mentioned that the roads here are in the hands of a contractor but it is a matter of lack of funds. The government claims there is no available source of funds,” he explained.

He further emphasized that while he understands the frustrations of the people, as an MP, he does not have the authority or means to personally construct roads, as that responsibility falls under the jurisdiction of the relevant government ministries.

“An MP is not a minister. Our role is limited to accessing the common fund. However, people tend to see me as the one directly responsible for road construction,” Mr Takyi added.
