Mahama Launches GH¢100m Fund to Drive Research, Innovation and Job Creation

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Ghana National Research Fund with an initial seed capital of GH¢100 million to strengthen research, innovation and knowledge-driven development.

The Fund is designed to provide competitive research grants, support doctoral and postdoctoral programmes, fund priority national research projects, and establish a modern digital platform for grant administration.

Speaking at the launch, President Mahama challenged Ghanaian researchers and scientists to focus on practical solutions to the country’s most pressing problems.

He urged the research community to align their work with national development priorities, particularly in job creation, industrial growth, agricultural transformation and improving livelihoods.

To sustain the momentum, the President directed relevant ministries to increase investment in research and innovation and to position Ghana to attract more international partnerships and funding opportunities.

The establishment of the Ghana National Research Fund is expected to deepen science, technology and innovation as key pillars of Ghana’s development agenda.

The government says the Fund will help bridge the gap between research outputs and real-world applications, ensuring that knowledge translates into economic impact.
