Kumawu MP Passes Away

The Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency, Hon Philip Basoah has been reported dead.

 

In a social media post, the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annoh Dompreh confirmed it.

The reports indicate that he died of a stroke, however, it is yet to be confirmed.

 

He died aged 54 on Tuesday, March 27, 2023.

 

The MP was among the two absent members of the governing New Patriotic Party legislators who were absent on Friday from the confirmation of the six nominees of President Akufo-Addo.

 

It was reported at the time that he had been taken ill.

 

He was born on Tuesday, 18th November 1969 and joined the 7th Parliament in January 2017.

 

He retained his seat in the 2020 General elections and remained a legislator until his death.

 

During his tenure in Parliament, he served as the Chairman of the Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises Committee; a member of the Lands and Forestry Committee; and a member of the Selection Committee.

 

He worked as the Projects Coordinator of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Ashanti Region and as District Chief Executive at the Ministry of Local Government for the Sekyere East District from June 2005 to January 2009.

 

He held a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management.
