Kingsley Schindler Replaces Tariq Lamptey In AFCON Qualifiers

Kingsley Schindler of German Bundesliga side FC Köln will replace Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey in the 25-man squad of Coach Chris Hughton for Thursday’s AFCON qualifier against Angola.

This was announced by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in a statement on Tuesday, two days to the game in Kumasi.

Tariq who was initially named among the squad will stay out due to injury, the Association said.

The right-back has been out of action for Brighton after sustaining a “small” knee injury according to his Coach, De Zerbi.

Meanwhile, German-born Kingsley Schindler will replace him.

The 29-year-old arrived in Ghana on Monday, March 20.

In a related development, 17 players are in Ghana ahead of matches.

They are Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, Joseph Wollacott, Alexander Djiku, Denis Odoi, Kingsley Schindler, Patrick Kpozo, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo, Andre Ayew, Joseph Painstil, Ransford Yeboah, Inaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, Majeed Ashimeru and Edmund Addo.

The rest are expected in the country this afternoon for their departure to Kumasi where the first leg will be held.

Ghana will host the Palancras Negras of Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on March 23 and play the return fixture in Luanda, the capital city of Angola on March 27.

 

The games will determine Ghana’s fate in the Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Cote D’Ivoire in January 2024.
