One-Week Celebration for Late Akwatia MP Announced

A date has been announced for the one-week observation of the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
The event will take place on August 29, 2025, at the Akyem Wenchi Funeral Grounds in the Eastern Region.
The first-time lawmaker died on July 7.
It came weeks after the Supreme Court brought finality to his disputed election.
The lawmaker had his election contested following his declaration as the winner in the 2024 Parliamentary polls with 19,269 votes over Henry Yiadom Boakye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who managed 17,206 votes.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has set September 2, 2025, to hold a by-election for the Akwatia Constituency.
The 40-year-old held an MSc in Defence and International Politics from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (2022), an MBA in Corporate Governance from the University of Professional Studies (2014), an LLB from Mountcrest University College (2019), and a BSc in Ports and Shipping Administration from Regional Maritime University (2009).
