It’s Vain to Bribe Committees I Establish to Probe Your Cases; Asantehene to Litigants

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has discouraged litigants from attempting to use money to influence the committees he constitutes to probe their disputes.

The Asantehene assured that such moves are in vain as they will not succeed.

At a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on January 27, 2025, His Majesty said they will not have their way when the report comes before him.

In his remarks, Otumfuo emphasized his resolve to uphold the truth, adding that such countless instances had come to his notice.

“This message is not limited to this case but applies to all cases: It is futile to attempt to influence committee members to act in your favour. Understand that here, we uphold truth and honesty. I have heard of many such issues, so be warned and refrain.”

Otumfuo said this while constituting a Committee to probe the chieftaincy dispute involving Kwapra.

KTC Dispute Resolution
It has been a practice of the Kumasi Traditional Council headed by the King of the Asante Kingdom to set up committees to probe disputes especially ones involving royalty and lands.

These committees are given a timeline to meet with the feuding factions, take their inputs- in the form of evidence- and draft their reports for subsequent submission to the Council.

On an appointed day, the Committees will present their findings. After hearing, the King opens up the floor to take the views of the various chiefs and Divisions on the findings of the Committee- either in favour of or against.

By this time, the King would have completed his personal investigations on the cases and would deliver his verdict on the case.

On some occasions, the verdict of the King based on his findings differed from that of the Committees.
