I’ll Work Towards Women Inclusion- Jean Mensah On Election

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Mensah has committed herself to ensuring women’s inclusion in the upcoming general elections of the country.

In her message on International Women’s Day (IWD), she threw her weight behind the theme for this year’s celebration.

“On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, I send a message of solidarity to all women who have been at the forefront of championing our country’s progress and development. The Electoral Commission of Ghana wholly supports the theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Inspire Inclusion’. As a Commission we believe in leaving no one behind.”

Based on that, she has pledged to aid in bringing women and the vulnerable into the election fold.

“As such, ahead of the 2024 General Elections, we will work towards the inclusion of women and other vulnerable groups in all our activities. We encourage all eligible women and girls to participate actively in our electoral activities and the General Elections in December 2024.”

She continued, “On this memorable occasion, I wish all women and girls a Happy International Women’s Day.”

IWD is set aside to advocate against gender bias, stereotypes, and discrimination as well as celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity.

Ghanaian women leaders including First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, former First Lady Lordina Mahama and others have used their respective social media platforms to propagate the cause.

In a prerecorded video, H.E Akufo-Addo highlighted that significant progress for women’s inclusion has been chalked over the years but asserted, “there is still a lot to be done”.

“We all look forward to the day when no one is discriminated against or limited because of their gender.”

For her part, Mrs Mahama underscored the need for women to support themselves in championing the cause.

“We must empower and celebrate one another and stand together in solidarity. Our responsibilities include ensuring every woman and girl feels valued in all aspects of society.”
