Family Of Asantehene Joins “Special” Akwasidae Edition
The family of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II graced the third Akwasidae festival of the year at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on March 31, 2024.
Otumfuo while delivering his well wishes to the traditional authorities at the Asanteman Council meeting on March 28 characterized this edition of Akwasidae as special, noting that it coincides with Easter Sunday.
Led by Lady Julia, five of the King’s children lined up to pay homage to their father as he sat in state to receive guests who had joined the festival which precedes the grand one that will climax his 25th enstoolment Anniversary.
Lady Julia donned the yellow print of His Majesty’s anniversary cloth as well as three of their children while the remaining two were adorned in traditional kente clothes the traditional way.
The visibly elated king shared some handshakes and brief convo with his family as they each joined him at his seat.
Also joining the festival was the Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah and the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) including the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Mayor, Sam Pyne, the Chief Executive of the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly, Hon Richmond Agyenim Boateng, the Regional Police Commander, ACP Frank Abrokwa, head of the National Signals Bureau, Mr Osei kufuor Agyemang, the General Commanding Officer of the Central Command, Brigadier General Michael Opoku and others.
The festival was also attended by a group of students from Alexandra Park School, a high school in North London in the United Kingdom.
The students were led by their Ghanaian teachers to catch a glimpse of the festival and learn about the Asante culture as part of their tour to Ghana.
Additionally, the Chief Executive Officer of Jilf Health Services, Dr Albert Addai and his family used the occasion to formally inform the King about his health centre at Abrafo Kokoben, Atwima Nwabiagya North District.
“We thank you for this opportunity to come before you. I am here with my family. We are here to pay homage and I have established a hospital and a mortuary on your land so we are here to inform you.”
Also joining to pay homage were the founder of the Ghana Freedom Party, Madam Akua Donkor, British politician Lord Paul Boateng and his spouse, Lady Janet Boateng as well as second-hand cloth dealers at Ashtown and Kejetia.
The next Akwasidae festival is on May 12, 2024, and marks the culmination of the 25th Anniversary of the King.
