GTEC Flags 70 Unrecognised Local and Foreign Tertiary Institutions

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has warned the public against enrolling in or using certificates from 70 tertiary institutions operating abroad and locally, citing various quality assurance concerns.

In a statement released on Monday, June 1, 2026, GTEC said it doesn’t recognise the institutions.

It therefore advised the general public to exercise due diligence with regard to any certificates issued by them.

GTEC stressed that certificates from these institutions are not accredited and may not be accepted for employment, further studies, or professional licensing in Ghana.

The Commission urged prospective students, parents, employers and other stakeholders to verify the accreditation status of any tertiary institution before enrollment or recruitment.

The flagged institutions include Universidad Aztecs in Mexico, Indian School of Management and Studies in India, Breyer State Theology University in the USA, and Osiri University also in the USA. Others are Atlantic International University, Rhema Bible Training College, Crown University International Chartered, and Kesmond International University, all based in the USA.

The list also covers Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica in Costa Rica, Selinus University of Sciences and Literature in Italy, Monarch Business School in Switzerland, City University in Cambodia, Washington University of Barbados in Barbados, and London Academy of Technology and Management in the UK.

Locally, GTEC named Debest College of Science, Arts and Business and Faith University Seminary, both in Ghana.

Below is a list of the institutions:
