GMet Warns of Thunderstorms and Moderate Rain Across Southern Ghana on June 30

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has cautioned residents across southern and parts of mid-western Ghana to expect moderate thunderstorms and rain from Tuesday morning, June 30, 2026, as a slow-moving rainstorm moves inland from the coast of Benin.
In an impact-based weather update issued at 0800UTC, GMet said the storm is expected to produce moderate thunderstorms with rain for parts of the Volta, Greater Accra, Eastern and Central regions between 0830GMT and 1400GMT.
The Agency rated the risk level as “Be Prepared” for those areas during the period.
The system is forecast to move further inland later in the day, bringing clouds and thunderstorms with rain over the Western, Ashanti, Ahafo, Western North and Bono regions from 1030GMT to 1600GMT.
GMet placed those regions at a lower “Be Aware” risk for the first hour, before the risk rises to “Be Prepared” for the subsequent two hours.
The Agency warned that strong to moderate winds may accompany the thunderstorms and that visibility could drop to between 6000 and 10,000 metres.
Motorists have been advised to drive with caution, reduce speed, use headlights where necessary, and avoid walking through flooded areas.
GMet also cautioned the public to stay clear of fallen trees, loose electrical cables, damaged utility poles and other storm-related hazards.
It noted that localised flash flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas, and urged residents to be on alert.
