GIZ Country Director Bids Farewell to Trade Ministry After Successful Tenure

The Country Director of GIZ Ghana, Dr Dirk Assman, has bid farewell to the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry following the successful completion of his tenure in the country.

In a meeting held at the Ministry on Monday, June 8, 2026, Chief Director Mr Noah Tumfo expressed profound appreciation to Dr Assman for his contributions to Ghana’s trade and industrial development.

He highlighted the GIZ boss’s invaluable role in advancing key sectors including textiles and garments, pharmaceuticals, digital trade, and capacity building for staff and industry players.

Mr Tumfo also commended Dr Assman’s support to the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, which is headquartered in Accra, noting that his work strengthened Ghana’s position in the AfCFTA implementation process.

Responding to the tribute, Dr Assman thanked the Government of Ghana and specifically the Ministry for the support and cooperation extended to him throughout his tenure.

He said the collaboration with the Ministry had been fruitful and assured that the partnership between GIZ and the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry would continue beyond his exit, with both institutions working toward greater mutual benefit and sustainable development.

Dr Assman’s departure marks the end of a period that saw expanded German-Ghanaian cooperation in industrialisation, trade facilitation, and technical capacity building.

GIZ, the German development agency, has been a key partner in several initiatives aimed at boosting private sector growth and regional trade integration in Ghana.

The Ministry wished Dr Assman success in his future endeavours and reaffirmed its commitment to deepening ties with GIZ for continued development impact.
