GES Pleased With Student Suspension Over Bullying In Viral Video

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has commended authorities of Adisadel College for suspending a student who was spotted in a viral video bullying his fellow student in a dormitory.

The Service condemned the conduct of the student as a “barbaric act of violence” in a press statement dated July 24, 2023.

“The attention of the Management of the Ghana Education Service has been drawn to a disturbing video of assault involving two students of Adisadel College being circulated on social media,” a part of the statement said registering its concerns.

It further disclosed that the student- culprit- has been suspended by authorities of the school and commended them for it.

“We applaud the school authorities for taking swift action to suspend the culprit.”

It also disclosed the Regional Director of Education has been directed to collaborate with the relevant security agencies and the school’s authorities to conduct an investigation and proffer sanctions.

In a 29 second video, a shirtless student was captured being strangled by another before having a part of his face smashed against a metal bed in the dormitory.

Social media users believe the level of indiscipline in schools is a result of the ban of corporal punishments in schools across the country by the Service.

One commented “That is the level of indiscipline in our schools. Students have empowered more than teachers. So they do whatever they like without thinking about the repercussion.”

Another held, “How can we adopt foreign culture of students not being caned and expect students to behave normal. If the school authority can discipline students appropriately all this indiscipline will not happen. It’s high time the authority looks at this. Our kids r from different homes and some is not disciplined or punished will never behave normal.”

“when you decide to implement a policy that’s not meant for a particular geographical location, then definitely you will always issue this type of statement,” commented another.
