GES Probes ADASS Shooting Incident

The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the shooting incident that occurred at the Adventist Senior High School (ADASS) in Kumasi on April 4.
The incident left two students injured while the culprit was arrested by police.
The Public Relations Officer of GES in the Ashanti Region, Henry Osei Boateng, says the committee will commence its work on Monday.
“The regional directorate has formed a committee, and that committee will start work today. We are waiting for some of the members to come. The school is under a metro, so we have a representative from the metro and a representative from the SDA unit.”
The Committee headed by the Regional Director of Education will visit the school to undertake its task.
“The regional director will lead in terms of reference with other members, so very soon, they will go to the school and start their investigation, and the outcome of it will be made public for everybody to hear.”
Background
According to preliminary police investigations, a locally manufactured pistol loaded with one BB round, brought to school by a 16-year-old second-year ADASS student, went off on Friday during an argument with his friends about whether it could actually fire.
Two students sustained injuries in the process.
The juvenile suspect was immediately arrested for questioning during which he disclosed he took the weapon from his father’s bedroom without his knowledge.
The victims were taken to the hospital and have since been discharged.
