First Awukudae Of 2023 Observed

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has observed the first Awukudae of the year 2023.

At the Manhyia Palace on January 18, the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom was joined by people from across and outside the country for the mini-festival.

Among them included a delegation from Malta, Kumasi Academy Secondary School, Opemsuo Nananon, Atweasin and several other individuals.

Maltese Delegation
The visit of Dr Ian Borg, the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs for Malta to the Manhyia Palace is part of Malta’s strategy of strengthening relations with Ghana.

It will be recalled that in November 2022, the Maltese High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Jean Claud Galea Mallia, during a courtesy call to the palace informed the King about the Minister’s desire for a call in January.

In his submission, he informed the King about the inauguration of Malta’s High Commission Office in Ghana- their first Office in Sub-saharan Africa.

His mission in the country is to strengthen trade ties for the mutual benefit of both countries.

KUMACA
The delegation from Kumasi Academy Senior High School  (KUMACA) included some students, the headmaster and Management members of the school.

They were led by the Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong, Hon Kennedy Kankam.

They presented a trophy the school won in the maiden edition of the STEMNOVATION national competition to the King as well as the brilliant student who led the school to victory.

Opemsuo Nananom, USA
Some members of an association of Asantes in the United States of America (USA) also joined to observe the Awukudae.

The group with the vision of promoting Asante culture and customs overseas introduced themselves to the monarch and wished him well for the new year.

Atweasin
Led by Barima Ogyeaboɔ Amankwaa Adunan II, Kontenasehene, the delegation from Atweasin were introduced to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Atweasin separated from the Asante Kingdom some 300 years ago but have been reunited through efforts by Barima Ogyeaboɔ since he was enstooled four years ago.

The Royals, as Barima Ogyeaboɔ referred to the delegation from Atweasin, were thus introduced to the King.
