Excavators, Pickup Seized as Task Force Foils Illegal Mining Near Adansi Asokwa Hospital

Two excavators and a pickup truck have been impounded following an illegal mining operation reported near the Adansi Asokwa Hospital this morning.

According to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Anti-Illegal Mining Task Force was immediately dispatched to the site after receiving a report of galamsey activities around the health facility.

On realising the matter had come to the attention of authorities, the suspects fled the scene.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible, he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

According to him, efforts to identify the landowners also proved unsuccessful.

As part of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council’s land reclamation initiative, the degraded area will be reclaimed. Steps will also be taken to ensure ownership of the land reverts to the Government of Ghana for future support services to the hospital.

The Council commended the whistleblower whose timely information made the intervention possible.

It is encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and report illegal mining and other environmental crimes.

“If you see something, say something. Together, we will protect our environment, safeguard public lands, and preserve critical infrastructure for future generations,” the statement said.
