Don’t Promise Asante Mampong Stool To Anyone; Otumfuo to Mampong Kingmakers

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has warned Asante Mampong kingmakers against taking advantage of the vacant stool for their parochial interest.

During the Asanteman Council meeting on July 10, 2025, Otumfuo cautioned them against promising the stool to interested parties in exchange for money, affirming that choosing a candidate for the stool was not part of their responsibilities.

“No kingmaker should promise the stool to anyone. I don’t want any litigation in Asante Mampong. Don’t take matters into your own hands.”
The King noted that the privilege was reserved for the Queen.

His Majesty likewise stated that the Queen is entitled to choose a candidate for the stool in consultation with the Family Head.

“The queen knows the royals. She must sit and receive requests and then choose a suitable candidate with the help of the Family Head.”

After choosing a candidate, Otumfuo directed that she must inform the “legitimate” kingmakers for the needed rites.

The Asantehene stressed that there are legitimate kingmakers who should enstool the candidate.

“I’m not talking about ceremonial kingmakers. There are the legitimate kingmakers who must perform the function.”
