Egyptian Envoy Meets Trade Minister To Strengthen Ghana-Egypt Trade And Investment Ties

The Ambassador of Egypt to Ghana, H.E. Wael Fathy Ahmed, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral relations and expanding trade and investment cooperation between Ghana and Egypt.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, focused on enhancing collaboration in key sectors of mutual interest.

Both parties identified technical and vocational training, poultry production, animal feed manufacturing, and other potential joint ventures as priority areas aimed at promoting economic growth in both countries.

During the discussions, Ambassador Ahmed reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Ghana.

He said Egypt is prepared to share expertise and explore investment opportunities in agriculture and other strategic sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

He stressed that building strong partnerships was critical to creating jobs, enhancing skills development, and increasing trade volumes between the two nations.

In her response, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare underscored the need for Ghana and Egypt to formalise their trade relations through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

She said an MoU would facilitate closer economic cooperation and unlock new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

The Minister also urged both countries to leverage the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to boost intra-African trade, investment, and industrial development.

She noted that Ghana is well-positioned for stronger collaboration following government approval of key industrial policies under the Ministry.

These include the Textile and Garment Policy, the Pharmaceutical Policy, and the Automotive Policy, all of which are expected to drive industrial growth and attract investment.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare further stated that the Ministry’s Agribusiness Directorate is committed not only to promoting value addition, but also to supporting the production and sustainable supply of raw materials required to strengthen local industries.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to expanding economic cooperation, fostering private sector partnerships, and advancing sustainable industrial development for the mutual benefit of Ghana and Egypt.
