E/R: One Dead in Diesel Tanker Blaze at Asutuare Junction

One person has been confirmed dead following a diesel tanker fire at Asutuare Junction on June 28, 2026.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), four fire pumps from Somanya, VRA, Akosombo and Gbetsile were deployed, and the first crew arrived at 0530 hours.

The fire was brought under control at 0603 hours and fully put out at 0630 hours.

The tanker and its contents were destroyed.

The driver, believed to be the person found burnt to death at the scene, could not be saved, while the driver’s mate was rescued and sent to Akuse Hospital for treatment.

The operation was led by StnO II Achisey from the Somanya Fire Station.

The GNFS said investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
