DVLA Impounds 40 Vehicles with Fake, Misapplied DP Stickers

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) says it has impounded 40 vehicles at the Tema Harbour following an intelligence-led clampdown on the use of fraudulent Drive from Port (DP) stickers.
The operation also targets the affixing of authentic DP stickers on vehicles with mismatched records.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the affected vehicles were imported by CFAO into Ghana.
However, evidence suggests that an agent engaged to clear the vehicles on behalf of the company employed illegal methods, resulting in the discrepancies identified.
DP stickers
The DVLA introduced DP stickers to address revenue leakages associated with the previous aluminium DP plate system.
Following this reform, the Authority recorded a significant increase in the issuance of DP stickers from an average of 2,000 stickers per month to approximately 15,000 in the month of October 2025.
In recent months, however, a noticeable decline in DP sticker issuance at the ports prompted further investigations.
The DVLA says it is working closely with National Security to investigate the matter and intensify efforts to combat fraudulent practices within the vehicle importation and registration process.
“The Authority underscores the critical importance of accurate vehicle data in ensuring road safety, enhancing traceability, and supporting effective transport policy decisions. Maintaining data integrity from the point of entry through to final registration remains a key priority.”
Caution
It further urged all vehicle importers and stakeholders to exercise due diligence and comply strictly with established procedures.
