Dollar Gift: Mahama Spares Sammy Gyamfi

President John Dramani Mahama has chosen not to take any disciplinary action against GoldBod’s Acting CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, after issuing him a formal warning over his controversial donation of dollar notes to fetish priestess-turned-evangelist, Patricia Asiedu.
At a press conference on May 14, the Spokesperson of the President, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, said the public official had been summoned and cautioned by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, for his action, which had over the days drawn public backlash.
“The Chief of Staff summoned him to the Presidency to learn about what transpired. The invitation was honoured. Mr Sammy Gyamfi indicated to the Chief of Staff what his side of the story was.”
“In view of that presidency does not believe any further action ought to be taken. We all take a cue from it and are going to do better to meet the expectations of the public.”
According to him, Sammy’s immediate acknowledgement of his error and apology puts him on the right foot against further action.
“That apology has been taken on board. When President Mahama launched the Code of Conduct, he said that one of the remedies for any potential breach was a public apology. He also said one of the remedies was a caution from the highest level of government. After the interaction with the Chief of Staff, he cautioned him and impressed on him to take on board public sentiments and act in ways that reflect public expectations.”
Meanwhile, he said, the chief of staff had reiterated the directive for appointees to be circumspect in their conduct.
He also assured Ghanaians of the government’s commitment to meeting their expectations.
“We value feedback. We are aware that Ghanaians expect high standards, we remain committed to meeting those high standards to ensure we deliver the best of governance.”
