NIA Refers Viral Extortion Claims against Bono Premium Centre to CID

The National Identification Authority (NIA) says it has referred a viral claim of extortion at its Bono Premium Centre to its internal CID for a full and independent investigation.

The claims were made in a video circulating on TikTok in which an individual known as “Sefwi Biggest Trapper” alleges that some NIA officers extorted money from him and others at the said Centre.

Condemning the incident which transpired on November 11, 2025, which reportedly caused unnecessary disruption and posed risks to other applicants, it reiterated its firm stance against any form of extortion or misconduct by staff.

In response, it said several attempts were made to engage both the claimant and his companion, Ms. Appiah Comfort, to assist in ongoing inquiries; however, all efforts have been unsuccessful.

“The matter has been referred to NIA’s Internal CID for a full and independent investigation.”

It has since urged the claimant to provide any evidence he claims to possess to support the investigation.

The Authority assured that appropriate disciplinary and legal action will be taken against any person found culpable upon conclusion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, it noted that fees at Premium Centres differ from those at District Offices.

At the Premium Centre, it said first-time registration costs GHS 310.00; Personal Information Update costs GHS 355.00; and Replacement of lost/damaged card costs GHS 420.00.

On the other hand, the District Offices charge no fee for First-time registration but charge GHS 60.00 and GHS 125.00, respectively, for Personal Information Update and Replacement of lost/damaged cards.
