Bruno Fernades Inherits United Captain Band

Portuguese footballer Bruno Fernandes has inherited the captain role of Manchester United following the stripping of English player Harry Maguire.

The club affirms that the 28-year-old’s new role will enable him to drive the highest standards for success in subsequent seasons.

“Bruno Fernandes has been named as the new club captain of Manchester United,” it said in a communique on Thursday.

It said the role isn’t new to him as he has won it on numerous occasions.

“The Portuguese midfielder has already worn the armband for United on numerous occasions and Erik ten Hag has confirmed that he will now lead the team on a permanent basis.”

Maguire had the sole right to the armband for more than three years until Sunday when he was announced to have been stripped.

He said he was “disappointed” at the decision but wished his successor well in a tweet.

“After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt,” Maguire said in a tweet calling his captaincy a privilege.

After joining United three years ago, Fernandes has scored 64 goals and contributed 54 assists in just 185 games.
