BoG Begins Monetary Policy Committee Meeting

The Central Bank of Ghana has begun the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting today, Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

The meeting is expected to end on Friday, May 23 and will be followed by a press conference on the same day.

The 124th MPC meeting will be used to review developments in the economy.

At the last meeting in March, the Committee increased the policy rate by 100 basis points to 28% in a bid to tame inflation.

It was attributed to the action of the current economic uncertainties influenced by external developments and concerns of inflation rising.

It also announced complementary measures to strengthen liquidity management and enhance monetary policy transmission.

This included the introduction of a 273-day instrument to augment the existing sterilisation toolkit, intensify the monitoring of banks’ Net Open Positions (NOPs) to ensure compliance and review the current structure of the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) to assess its broader impact on liquidity conditions and financial intermediation in the economy.
